Canadian filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin has directed dozens of films, many of which document First Nations culture and history. Her 50th film “Our People Will Be Healed”(2017) focuses on one of Manitoba’s largest First Nations communities, Norway House, and how the people there are looking ahead towards healing and reclamation of culture through education.

Ninjababy: Review

Ninjababy is a Norwegian comedy drama about a messy young artist, Rakel (Kristine Kujath Thorp) who discovers she is pregnant with an unwanted child. While not exactly heavy on plot this film makes up for it in charm, humour and emotion.

The Edinburgh College of Art Graduate Show 2021

The Edinburgh College of Art graduate show is a big deal in Edinburgh’s arts calendar. It’s an exhibition of the students’ final pieces of work and the culmination of years of study. You can see anything from interior design to fine art, architecture, silversmithing, filmmaking and a lot more. Following the last couple of years of disruption and remote learning it’s great to be able to see what the recent graduates have been able to produce.

The struggle of grafting hard just to make ends meet and provide a stable home for your family. And about the struggles of marginalised communities trying to stave off poverty in whatever ways they can in the embers of the pandemic.

Come with me as we journey into the beautiful Welsh countryside. One where many an Armstrong childhood holiday was spent camping within reach of soft sandy beaches, luscious green rolling hills and tall grasses blanket the land. The Welsh language, so rarely heard on film, fills our ears.

But something’s not right here. The people are strange. There is a bloody undertone looming. Will we make it out alive? If you can brave a peek through your fingers you might find out.

This pandemic-based roadtrip comedy sees two sisters racing across the country to free their grandma from a covid-infested nursing home. With comic vibes and palpable chemistry reminiscent of “Booksmart” directors Mallory Everton and Stephen Meek have a very funny, very timely film.

This meta-narrative film-of-a-film centres around feminist ideals in heterosexual relationships and the unreal impressions we give on social media. While the intentions are noble, momentum falls quickly and the layers of narrative creates confusion.

This debut feature by writer-director Layla Zhuqing Ji is a stark social commentary on bullying, self-preservation and society’s willingness to judge before they try to listen. Media sensationalism is held to account for stoking unfounded accusations and rumour which destroys people’s lives. But the central theme of bullying is unflinching and alarming.
